Lifting on Ben Nevis in Scotland

• Climbing on Ben Nevis in Scotland

It has been almost 3 months since I left Scotland, but Scotland itself is not going to leave me, she still sits stubbornly in my head, which I am very pleased. Not every trip can be remembered in a very pleasant way to remind yourself.

The seventh day of our autotravel began on the Isle of Skye, where yesterday I attended a very beautiful point of the Old Man of Storr. Bite has the usual breakfast, which, due to the absence of other provisions, we liked, we went to Fort William. But before that briefly we decided to explore the island. Of course, we all wanted to stay here for another couple of days, but the timing of us very much running out: we are waiting for one big event that is just not the key event for our whole trip.

Sky began his day with indecently good weather, which is sorely missed yesterday. We are back to civilization: we drove past the car, and the crowds of tourists and then enters the frame

We have opened a truly stunning views. How could I not want to leave here! However, tomorrow will be even steeper species

Further our way passed through the fjord Loch Duyh, which is one of the most famous castles of Scotland Eilen Donan, named after the monk-hermit, living on the island

The stern, but at the same time romantic and beautiful place. We could hardly find a parking space. Definitely, the West - the second tourist destination in Scotland after Edinburgh!

managed to catch the time of flight of the aircraft above the castle. By the way, I have no idea what kind of aircraft and why it flies so low

On the eighth day of the trip Scottish weather came around and became a typical gray

Looking at these harsh beaches, moors, rocks, you begin to understand why the Scots were the most harsh and merciless warriors

Arriving in the evening in Fort William, we went to the bar, where he stayed until night, talking about everything and think about how to plan the next day. Fort William - an unremarkable town, if not for one thing, and that is NO attracts thousands of tourists each month. The city is located at the foot of the highest mountain Shotlandii- Ben Nevis. Perhaps you will come to mind the figure of 3 or even 4 thousand meters above sea level, but it is much more prosaic: the height of Ben Nevis- 1344 meters.

The next morning, I parked the car, as it turned out, private parking, we began our ascent

Lifting on Ben Nevis in Scotland

Average ascent time including ascent and descent, is 7 hours. With the ascent of the mountain there are 3 formal "check points": 1 chekpoint- mountain lake (where you can come across a couple of hours), followed by a mountain stream, the first place where you can get your feet wet, and finally the top. The second checkpoint, you can see in this photo. Particularly attentive people will be able to find in this photo 5 people

Frankly, the ascent, we did not prepare: I dressed not very warm, the food was just a bun and bottle of water capacity of 0, 4 l. In early recovery, I saw many people who were equipped so that any "climber" on some Nepali eight-would definitely jaw dropped: Warm jackets, boots with crampons, hefty backpacks, trekking sticks. We have none of this was

When I told my Scottish friend of his intention to climb Ben Nevis, he just smiled and said that it is unlikely I will open beautiful views: it will be cloudy, or else it will rain. Indeed, according to the climate statistics about the mountain is so severe, that the sky 355 days overcast of which 260 days a year to year over the mountain Ben Nevis there are strong storms and falls up to 4400 mm of rainfall per year (which is 7 times more than in London and Edinburgh). In general, the prospects are opening up joyless, but once we were near Ben Nevis, then it would be simply foolish not to climb on it. A dalshe- come what may.

When we passed the first checkpoint, a mountain lake, and climbed even higher, drizzling rain. Some people turned back

And they made a very good reason: it is literally in 10 minutes in a very unexpected place a rainbow appeared. It looked very nice. What a changeable weather in the mountains!

Next, as they say, cleared up. Oh, and the visibility is excellent! Apparently, my colleague, the Scot was not lucky to see so from this mountain! And I told you do not have to believe the statistics! Hurrah! Next will be only the sun and wonderful visibility!

Then the sky clouded over again. Heck, maybe I suffer the same fate-Scottish colleagues ..

My colleague Mario and Basil, too, resent due to the frequent change of weather. Climbing mountains lottery, and will never know that you will have to wait at the top

The first checkpoint was somewhere far behind, and we were approaching the second formal point. It is interesting that we have seen a lot of women with children who are on hand dragged them upstairs. After the first checkpoint they all went back. You can not take children to places!

Nearly up to the top reaches a self-made path, which later saved me

Taking too fast paced, quickly I was out of breath and decided to rest. Gestured Basil, Ginger Mario and cunning, that they might go without me, I got out of the water backpack and laughed at his stupidity: did not have to take such a small bottle. Pulling player, I started listening to fits perfectly into the atmosphere of post-rock. I do not remember what the account track I listened to when I noticed in the distance a great cloud coming ... a hair's breadth in our direction. At first, she enveloped those mountains that you have seen in the photographs, then at a breakneck pace, and she covered the mountain lake. Score went to the second, soon, this cloud will cover me. After a moment I could not see anything at arm's length. A wonderful feeling! However, I also did not see where I need to go. Every step is not there - guaranteed speed teleport down. I decided to wait a little moment. Muted. It was awesome

Then the cloud hurried about their business, leaving the rest of the hapless tourists. I went to the second checkpoint and realized that to go further, not soaking the feet, it will nevozmozhno- began "snow stage." Swearing over and grinning his lack of training, I started to rise up, sometimes sinking knee-deep in snow. This rise was much more exhausting, at every step had to do three times as much effort. In general, after a while I ran out of gas again and sat down on a rock, where I discovered the most beautiful panorama against which an elderly couple holding hands, continued to climb

The second time monopod for camera action amiss as trekking sticks. Postponing it and taking a few photos, I realized that I do not remember the place where I put it. It took 20 minutes to see a black stick in the pile of black stones :-) At the top I have been waiting for the guys

But it was not over yet: the tip was in there somewhere. People became less and less, more than half of people who have not calculated its capabilities, went down. Particularly enterprising people hung luggage on their dogs

After 20 minutes of slow recovery, we were on top. Hurrah! Baptism of fire in the climbers successfully completed. Of course I'm kidding. By this time I was so froze his feet, that is simply not felt them, I wore rag shoes, and I was not dressed very warm. But all that paled against the background of the emotions that I got. Top of the mountain is flat enough, there is a house and a home-made stone pedestal for future messages climbers

Picnic on the highest point of Scotland

We are very fortunate to visit the mountain that day, when you could see the stunning views. As a rule, there is pour heavy rain and visibility deteriorates. Seeing my photos later, a colleague Scot upset that all of the five visits he did not manage to go there in good weather

Lifting on Ben Nevis in Scotland

Next, the weather improved and remained perfect until the end of the day. On climbing (ascent + descent), it took us a little over 6 hours. We are not in a hurry and just enjoy the views. Although I am on the way down yet hurried: Well, I just could not go past the snow and not poskolzit on it! At one point his legs collapsed under the snow, and I almost broke my leg as I fell under the snow at full speed, the body leaning forward, out of inertia. Remembering that the vast majority of all the troubles happening on the way down, and I will write here: Always be extremely careful! Even if on the mountain which you ascend, there have been no deaths, it does not mean that there have not been fixed frostbite \ injury \ fractures!

Next, we went to the Glenfinnan viaduct, the same one made famous by the movie "Harry Potter". His shoot normally failed, but the area around was very, very beautiful!

The day turned out to be very, very busy. We are all tired, but they were incredibly excited.

Thank you for your attention, my friends!
